When you step into a new role at Bursledon Parish, we’ll guide you through our safer recruitment process. This will include an application form which require 2 references (if we don’t already have one), safeguarding training and in some cases a DBS check.
These steps help us create a safe and welcoming church community for everyone, and we’ll support you at each stage.

Sidesman Duties

This role differs in each church, but in addition to overseeing seating arrangements and managing the congregation queue during communion, a sidesman at St. Paul’s & St. Leonard’s Churches may also assist with welcoming parishioners, distributing service materials, and helping with any other tasks needed to ensure a smooth church service. If you have further questions, feel free to ask!

Roles involved within the life of the church

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a central role in the life of the church. The role includes oversight of our two church buildings, responsibility for finances and involvement in other key initiatives as needed. It’s a chance to make a meaningful impact at the heart of our parish community.

Primary skills for this exciting new role are organising, communicating and admin. Gathering quotes and information for one-off larger repairs and projects, as well as arranging & reporting on team meetings. (This post isn’t for a handy man), although if that’s your skill-set, we’d love to have you on the team!

Deanery Synod meets 3 times a year and Deanery Synod representatives are also members of our PCC. They act as a vital link between the Parish and the wider Eastleigh Deanery, sharing news and reporting back the exciting things that God is doing in other local churches.

PCC (Parochial Church Council)

The PCC is the name given to the church’s decision-making council, who meet bi-monthly.. In legal terms, PCC members are also trustees of the Bursledon Church charity. The PCC monitors, contributes to and enables the ministry and mission of the church across the board.
PCC members form the core of the following teams and encourage others in the church family to join the teams too.

PCC Sub Teams

Children, Families & Youth

Children & Families

Working with children and families at Bursledon Parish Church is a joyful and deeply rewarding part of our ministry. It’s all about creating a safe, fun, and welcoming space where children can explore faith, build friendships, and discover God’s love in ways that make sense to them.
As we support families, we walk alongside them through real life — celebrating milestones, offering encouragement and helping them feel rooted in a caring church community.
Whether through Sunday groups, family services, special events, or everyday conversations, this ministry helps nurture faith that lasts and strengthens the whole life of our church.
There are many ways to get involved, if you are interested in helping, please contact  our children & families minister:

Youth

Working with youth at Bursledon Parish Church is an exciting opportunity to invest in the next generation. Our young people bring energy, honesty, creativity and big questions — and journeying with them as they explore faith is both inspiring and deeply meaningful. This ministry is about creating a safe, fun and open space where teens can be themselves, build lasting friendships and discover how faith connects with real life. Whether through youth groups, mentoring, worship, trips, or simply sharing life together, you’ll help empower young people to grow in confidence, faith, and purpose. It’s a chance to make a genuine impact and to walk alongside young people as they shape the future of the church.
